Welcome!

Just like anything else, you have to start somewhere. So here it is – the official start. Of what, I don’t know quite yet. And that’s the beauty of starting a blog. If you do it right, there are no expectations, no pressure of how to do it. Just buy a domain name, install WordPress, login, install a theme, and get writing. Simple as that.

So, if it is that simple, why do people complicate it? They spend hours looking for the right theme. Agonizing over the right domain name for the site. What the best hosting company is. And this is all before a single word is written.

I believe the answer to that question, is that there is an initial fear to starting something new – especially if there are expectations beforehand. I don’t think a blog is any different. If you are putting something out there for people to read, there may well be judgments on what you’ve created not far behind. That can be a big deal for some people. Remaining anonymous is a solution for this.

I decided to blog anonymously, at least for now. That may change down the line, but while my writing remains embarrassingly ordinary as I find my true voice, leaving my name off of the blog seems like the right move for now.

The plan right now, is to just post my thoughts on random stuff. No structure or planning ahead whatsoever. I thought it would be an interesting way to do what Julia Cameron demonstrates as Morning Pages, where you just write every day at a consistent time and within a set time interval – such as an hour or so. The key to the whole exercise is consistency. If you stick to the regimen, your writing will improve over time. That is basically my goal.

But beyond just becoming a better writer (I do have a degree in English), it’s a way to just  get the gunk out of my head. I think a lot of people could benefit from just writing out what is bugging them. Or what’s on their mind. There is lots of stuff that I would like to see changed, but there is also stuff in my life that is going just fine.

One thing I would definitely like to change about myself, is to become less of a procrastinator (I have a real significant problem in this area). I want to be the type of person who just decides to start something and starts it. Hence this blog. I got the idea to do it, and decided that instead of letting the fears take over, I’d just do it.

So, here it is. The first insignificant post. But hopefully down the line, there will be that post that gets all the love. But I have to work through the ‘crap’ to get there.

I have to put in my pages.

Final thought:
Rather than worrying about how it is going to perform, or whether it is going to be waste of your time, just start one and stick with it for a while. The blogging habit is a good one to foster, and even if there is no money at the end of it, other useful skills will come out of it, and you may even learn some interesting things about yourself.
